Rebuild your resilience – be the best you can be in 2026

Written by Audra Proctor | Dec 18, 2025 7:34:46 PM

There is little doubt that 2025 has been another challenging year for organisations and the people inside them – an energising year in parts but a tough one nevertheless as organisations are forced to react to rapid technological, societal, geo-political and economic shifts.

As we head into the festive break, the focus for many change leaders and individuals is on rest and rejuvenation ahead of the challenges that await around the corner in 2026. And part of that is about acknowledging where there is change fatigue and replenishing depleted levels of resilience.

But where do you start with that process?

We have a research-based psychometric and development tool called the PAITM (Personal Adaptability Inventory), which provides a structured way to understand and develop mental and emotional resilience levels among leaders and their teams.

And we are making it available this festive period to ensure you are the best you can be going into 2026 – free to the first 100 people who request a trial. First come first served.

So don't delay and request your trial below !!

Why building organisational resilience matters more than ever

At the most fundamental level, building organisational resilience matters because people in organisations need the know-how and tools to protect their health and wellbeing. As well as consciously recharging and repairing – ready for change challenges and opportunities ahead.

A Harvard Business Review article in May 2023 spoke of people ‘hitting a wall’ and building in periods of proactive rest – such as HubSpot’s global week of rest each year. A peek into our extensive change database - which includes a powerful combination of data science and community expertise from over 55,000 Change practitioners and over 900,000 datapoints - highlights the continuous loading of change on people and the struggle for capacity to keep up with this demand.

Gartner are also reporting that managing change fatigue is the top mission-critical priority for change communication leaders.

Whilst more effective management of the ‘Change load’ (that is the source of much of this fatigue) is essential, actively focusing on building resilience – as a foundation stone for any change capability building – is also critical for leaders. To ensure they are creating highly adaptable people which means that those inside their organisation are truly ‘change ready’ and:

  • more agile during times of major transition

  • better placed to maintain performance and results through sustained productivity and higher levels of quality

  • able to engage more people in the Change process more quickly and effectively

  • able to build trust and a reputation for proactively anticipating and managing transformation on a consistent basis

The People Element

Part of what makes people resilient is probably innate.

Research on Adaptability shows that people tend to be either optimistic or pessimistic – a ‘self-talk’ that is learned over time and can significantly impact the way we make sense of disruptive situations, such as those associated with major organisational change.

The good news. Resilience is a skill that can constantly be practised and improved.

We can develop and strengthen resilience with self-awareness and training.

How PAI™ can help

Like everything we do at Changefirst people data is key to understanding context – and resilience is no different.

Not only is the PAI™ backed by extensive academic and field-based research, but it also provides a structured and data-driven way for leaders to assess, baseline and boost resilience levels in themselves and their teams with:

  • proactive assessment in relation to 7 key characteristics and behaviours of highly resilient and adaptable people

  • practical tactics and actions to learn, develop and avoid overuse and underuse of these characteristics and behaviours in specific situations

And we are making PAI™ available free of charge to the first 100 people who request a trial to help them assess their resilience ahead of the challenges in 2026.
